Opinions on Demon Slayer Characters.

 I was bored, and I haven't really done a blog like this for a while so I figured I would. I will be honest in my writing, and if I say something negative about your favorite character just know these are just my opinions and if you like said character that is fine with me.

Also with my favorite characters I will try to be as honest as can be. And I will probably add songs that make me think of said character.

Just a note there are a lot of characters on this list I'm mostly neutral about. 

Starting with the Kamaboko Squad.

Tanjiro Kamado

The song I would choose for Tanjiro is Hey Brother by Avicii, by extension I could probably relate that song to Nezuko and his friends. 

My honest opinion about Tanjiro, is I do quite like him. I think if I ever had kids and they turned out to be like Tanjiro, I'd be okay with it. He actually is my second favorite Kamaboko Squad member, which he wasn't always the second. I do have a tattoo of him too.

I do think he's unaware of how he comes off to certain people, even Giyu. He does seem like that pushy friend, the one sticking his nose in other people's fights, but at the same time when he does that he tends to help the situation. Like in the case of Genya and Sanemi's altercation, if Tanjiro hadn't been there then Sanemi would've blinded Genya.

Overall as a main character I do think he serves the series well, and I love his brother like relationship he has with Giyu Tomioka. My only gripe maybe is that while yes he did learn and look up to Rengoku a lot, it didn't seem like they spent a lot of time with the Flame Hashira to really develop that bond. Maybe it's because in my head while yes Rengoku saved Tanjiro, it was Giyu who gave him and his sister mercy when it was his duty as Hashira to kill Nezuko.

But it's a small gripe and not that important.

Overall, he's a great character. 

Nezuko Kamado

I like Nezuko, I think she's adorable and I like to think of her like my daughter. I do think it's unfortunate that we don't get much context of her as a human other than memories and after she turns back into a human at the end of the series. And this may piss off a lot of Zenezu fans, but I don't like that they ended up together.

A song that would fit her would be Between the Devil and the Deep Blue See by Xylo.

Overall she's a great character, she's not in my top favorite characters. I wish they utilized her a little more, Demon Slayer overall seemed rushed unfortunately. 

Kanao Tsuyuri

She's my third favorite Kamaboko Squad Member. 

Especially after finishing the manga and seeing the infinity castle movie, but like Nezuko I wish we got more scenes with her. All the squad members got a mission and a fight with Tanjiro, but Kanao and I think that was a shame. 

I do like her fight with Upper Moon Two, and I think even without Shinobu's help she would've done at least decent against him. (Though her and Inosuke wouldn't be able to do it without her of course.)

And she's the other half of my favorite canon ship, so there's that. 

A song for her would be Mirror Mirror by Jeff Williams and Casey Lee Williams (From RWBY)

Zenitsu Agatsuma 

And this is where the honesty comes in.

From the beginning, I found him annoying and I hated him. However, I have turned mostly neutral about him over all. I know he gets stronger at the end, and I applaud him for defeating upper six for his loved one, but.....I just couldn't get into the fact that he locked in at the every end. (Again, Demon Slayer feels very short so I guess there's that.)

A song for him would be honestly Enemy by Tommee Profitt. It fits well with the underlying theme of his battle against Kaigaku. 

Inosuke Hashibara

Insouke was originally my second favorite member, but I still love him even if he's been moved down to fourth probably. I do tend to find him a little annoying at times, but I guess I'm a little unfair and tend to overlook it because I think he's actually funny. I honestly don't even know what song I would choose for him, maybe any punk rock song? 

I do think it's sweet at the end of the manga he gets with Aoi. I know people think it was random, but I don't care. 

I do wish however we got to see other Hashira's reactions to him, not just Giyu, Shinobu, Rengoku, and Tengen. It would be hilarious to see how Obanai reacted to him.

Genya Shinazugawa

Here he is, my favorite Kamaboko Squad member and overall my third favorite character in all of the series! I love Genya, I relate to him a lot out of mostly all the characters. I also come from a family of seven children, and sometimes strained relationship with my older sibling. I am the youngest of the seven kids however, but like Genya can be protective of my older siblings.

Song for him would be Leave Out all the Rest by Linkin Park.

I do think he needed to hold his older brother more accountable. But I understand trauma can work in many ways. (I like Sanemi still, they just didn't get the help they needed to handle the trauma given the time they live in.)

And I feel like even if Sanemi was upfront with him, Genya still would've stayed in the Demon Slayer Corps. As a younger sibling I can tell you that, we do not listen for shit. Also again will piss off ZenXNezu fans, but if Genya lived, I think Genya and Nezuko would've made a cute couple.

Now Moving onto the Hashiras.

Shinobu Kocho

I'm mostly neutral about Shinobu, not in the way that I am with Zenitsu. I don't really find her annoying, mostly I think it's mainly a fandom thing. I do like her, but I don't really have an emotional attachment to her like others do. And when I first got into the fandom, I actually thought she would be my favorite girl, but that ended up being someone else.

I do think her song is Notre Dame by Paris Paloma.

I guess that my unpopular opinion on her is that I think romance was ever on her mind. (Fans will use the moon reference as proof she likes Giyu romantically, but she literally also says it to the demon girl she killed.)

However, I do think they're sibling coded. Annoying little sister and brooding older brother type thing. BUT, if you like GiyuXShinobu that's fine! I just never saw her in a ship with anyone. I think maybe because I think she's so focused on her plan I don't think she ever thought of anyone that way.

Kyojuro Rengoku

I love Rengoku! He's another that I thought would become one of my favorites, but I don't really think I had that much time with him to really make him my favorite if that made sense? I feel like we got introduced to him, and then he's gone. I understand that his death had a lot of impact on Tanjiro and the story, but it seemed like a shame to lose him so early. 

Song for him would be the Grey by Bad Omens.

I however do like to ship him with Giyu, RenGiyu is actually my second favorite Giyu ship. I do feel bad for him though, losing his mother and his father acting the way he did. And he's a great older brother, so all around a good character.

Obanai Iguro

Holy hell, one of the kings of mischaracterization.

Obanai is my third favorite Hashira and Fourth favorite character over all. While I think he can be quite rude at times, I do understand he's that way for a reason. He's a very disciplined slayer and holds his fellow Hashiras to the same standard. I do think it's sweet that he loves Mitsuri despite his aversion to women in general.

Song for him would be Impose by Bad Omens.

My only gripe is that again we don't really get a lot of time with him, and his major battle is with Muzan so fans who only watch anime tend to dislike him because they don't really know his background. (If you know his background and still hate him, then I guess fine.) He really got the short end of the stick when it came to backgrounds, like with Kanao I wish we got a season where Tanjiro has to fight a demon alongside him. (Even if it was just a lower moon, come on!)

Gyomei Himejima

I love Gyomei, fourth favorite Hashira and fifth overall favorite. Like with Obanai and Kanao, I wish we got a little more time with him. And I do wish that we got more scenes with him and Genya, I feel like we need to read between the lines when it comes to his relationship with him. But I do like that he gave him a chance, even if it was only to be an apprentice.

If anything, Genya was the safest with Gyomei. He made sure that Shinobu was checking him over for side affects of eating demons, man was taking care of him when he had no obligation to.

I actually don't even know what song to choose from him, at least from my roster. So I'll just leave it at that.

Tengen Uzui

I'm sorry, but Tengen fans made me sort of dislike Tengen. But I do vibe with him, I just don't talk about him to the few people in my circle that like Demon Slayer. 

I won't say much about him honestly, but song choice would be Savior by Rise Against.

Mitsuri Kanroji

Mitsuri reminds me of one of my friends, and maybe that's why she's my favorite girl. I think it's sweet how she loves Obanai, though I do think it's kind of silly she has crushes on most of the male Hashira. (I get it, she's the love Hashira.) But I wonder what Obanai would think what she thought about Sanemi. He'd probably turn on his best friend.

Her song for me would be Wildfire by Against the Current.

I also do like to ship her with Giyu, I sort of opened up to it after someone mentioned it. I do like the extrovertxintrovert trope. And also in the manga, Giyu helps her up after Tengen knocks her over. lol

Muichiro Tokito

I do like Muichiro, but I think I'm more neutral about him. I do like his relationship with Tanjiro, and I find it hilarious how he acts with other slayers compared to him. I however, do not like his crow. I can't stand them.

Song for him would be Colorblind by Coldrain.

Overall, I think he's a good character. 

Sanemi Shinazugawa

Second Favorite Hashira and character over all. Like with Obanai, I think he's mischaracterized a lot, though I do understand why people don't like him. 

I do recommend reading the Signs of the Wind light novel, it puts a lot of his inner thoughts into context which is something I wish we got sooner. And I do agree that he shouldn't have tried to blind his brother, but his English voice actor did put it into perspective that he interpreted it as Sanemi panicking because how far could Genya go until there was a point of no return?

Doesn't justify his actions, but explains it in a way.

Song for him would be Feed the Fire by coldrain.

Giyu Tomioka

My all time favorite character in the series. When it comes to Giyu Tomioka, I feel like a lot of fans do tend to mischaracterize him as well. While I get most people play it off as a joke, he isn't just 'sitting at home sad because he has no friends'. His depression is far worse than that. And he's not defenseless either, he sasses Sanemi back, if anything he ragebaits Sanemi more than Sanemi does him.

His whole theme is survivors guilt and imposter syndrome. He doesn't understand how he comes off to the other Hashira either. To him, he thinks he's unworthy of being a Hashira and standing next to the likes of them, but to the others he comes off as arrogant and aloof. A lot of his issues with Sanemi and Obanai especially, is based off misunderstanding each other. 

I am also a SaneGiyu shipper, but I do like their dynamic overall. I think if anyone mirrors Giyu the best, it would be Sanemi.
